The Beyond Flipped SPRINT is a delivery model for solving problems within a constrained time frame. It is designed to provide solutions to solve important problems within a 5-day development timeframe. The compressed nature of the Beyond Flipped SPRINT encourages rapid solution generation, that allows for tangible prototyping within a self-contained, time-bound exercise. Rather than peppering your development sessions across a series of weeks, at the mercy of ever-changing calendar events, the SPRINT is designed to consolidate development time, therefor preventing a loss of pace, and dilution of ideas, that inevitably occurs when development is stretched across a prolonged timeframe. Utilising the Google Ventures Sprint process as a foundation, we set to work in creating a bespoke solution, tailor made to developing innovative course designs within a higher education institution. The Beyond Flipped initiative has developed a selection of LEGO-based activities that can be utilised by both teachers and learners to enrich the teaching and learning experiences respectively. The various LEGO offerings are: Lightning LEGO A shallow dive into the possibilities of learning through LEGO, designed for rapid delivery within a short period of time. Think 15-30 minutes, fast-paced, informative and fun! LEGO-A-GO-GO An interactive and engaging Beyond Flipped method for problem solving; regardless of discipline, learning level, or topic area. Delivered over a 1-2 hour timeframe, application of the method results in a rich environment that facilitates a deep learning experience. The L·E·A·R·N framework has been developed by the Disruptive Media Learning Lab (DMLL) to aid in adoption ofBeyond Flipped learning methods. L·E·A·R·N comprises of five elements, each designed to get participants considering different approaches from the traditional lecture-seminar-homework teaching style. Employing the framework allows for a more dynamic and innovative approach to learning and teaching, focusing on five key stages of the process. LOCATE Choose a short question for exploration Explore problem domain through any appropriate means within the physical or hyper space. EVALUATE Identify credible sources of information Curate information to formulate academically rigorous argument. ARTICULATE Present findings to peers for discussion and analysis Debate different points of view to gain a deep understanding of problem domain. In other words, this means getting students to PRESENT their understanding. RE-EVALUATE Amalgamate disparate ideas Consolidate information into a balanced understanding of initial topic and resultant arguments. NATURALISE Turn information into knowledge for future utilisation Create links between new knowledge garnered through this exercise with previous endeavours.
